Number plates, vehicle photos and footage are personal data. Who may view them, how long they are kept and how they are exported is set with the operator or building management and handled under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

Sound cabling, barriers and readers are reused and the cut-over is phased, so lanes keep working during the upgrade; ANPR cameras with infrared flash are placed at entry and exit for night reading.

The ANPR camera reads the vehicle type and colour as well as the plate. A silver motorcycle arriving on a plate registered to a white car does not open the barrier; the guardhouse is alerted instead.
