Fiber Optic Cable

One or more strands of glass, each slightly thickner than human hair, are made of a fiber optic cable. That strand’s center is called the heart that allows light to move. A glass coating called a cladding is covering the heart, reflecting light within to avoid signal loss and permits light to pass through curves in the cable.

The two main types are single-mode and multi-mode optical fiber cable. Single fiber uses extremely fine glass strands and lasers to create light, while LEDs are used for the multi-mode optical fibre.

Optics of fiber help increased efficiency. The network bandwidth of a fiber cable can be easily greater than the sum of a copper cable of the same length. Norm are 10 Gbit / s fiber cables, 40 Gbit / s and 100 Gbit / s.
